Casa Camacho
More informationThree siblings run the place with the same philosophy as always: this is what we have, and what we have is good. Since 1928, Casa Camacho has occupied the same spot in the heart of Malasaña without changing a single inch. The barrels behind the bar are the originals, the vermouth tap is still the same, and the bottles on the shelves have been there long enough to need no introduction.
If it’s not your first time in Madrid, you’ve probably already tried vermouth, but here the drink to order is a yayo: draft vermouth, gin, and soda water, mixed right in front of you. If you’re hungry, go for the gildas or the tripe with chickpeas. There’s no menu to browse, which makes the decision refreshingly simple.
A curious detail: to reach the restroom, you have to walk underneath the bar. Casa Camacho is not a recreation of traditional Madrid—it is traditional Madrid itself, still open and alive. And those who know it understand that it is well worth the visit.
